Marlin Biweekly Dev & Community Updates – March 2021

The first half of March has been quite eventful. Here’s a quick recap of everything that unfolded.

As always, our discord server is the place to storm us in case you have any queries or want to discuss all things Marlin and Layer 0. For community-related discussions, our Telegram channel is the place to be!

Engineering Updates

- Ethereum gateways were updated to work with newer Eth protocol versions in preparation for the Berlin hard fork.

- The staking subgraph was changed to have two modes, one with potentially a bit more stale data which syncs in minutes and one with fully correct data, but takes over half a day to sync. Enables fixing any bugs quickly and pushing out approximate data while automatically replacing it with fully correct data once it is available.

- Iris gateway was updated to work with the new 0.34 TenderMint core-based full node. Currently being tested before release.

- Marlinctl now has a command for generating and managing keystores easily.

- Redelegation support was added to the staking contracts and the UI.

Redelegation Support

- Deployed the final staking platform and reward distribution mechanisms.

- The bridge UI for the POND to MPond conversion has been released.

Community Updates

Staking

Our staking platform went live on 7th March 2021. Since then, over 340 million POND has been staked in the form of MPond and POND tokens. More than 308 MPond (equivalent to 308 Million POND) has been locked towards running and delegating to clusters with over 31 million POND staked towards these clusters.

APR for delegating POND to different clusters currently ranges from 10-800%. This depends on the cluster’s performance and the total number of delegations the operator receives. To learn more about how to stake, check out our staking guide for dummies. The tokenomics for Larvanet can be found here.

We’ve received the support of notable validators in the space who operate clusters. Some of them include P2P Validator, Stakely.io, Audit.one, Staking4All, HashQuark, and InfiStones. McGill University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University are also running nodes on Marlin. The complete list of the operators can be found here.

Dashboard

A proactive community member created a dashboard to track the total POND staked, cluster reward rates, total stake bonded in FlowMint and MPond placed for conversion. While it’s still being improved, we wanted to give them a shout-out.
